The Czech Republic is the only one of all four Visegrád states that has not had a female prime minister or president. This means that Poland, Hungary and Slovakia are ahead of the country in terms of equality, at least in this respect. In addition, there is still no equality law in this country. And Poland is the only one of the four Visegrád partners to have ratified the Istanbul Convention. So is gender equality bad in the Czech Republic? This question can also be asked about the local labor market, which presents hurdles for women and especially mothers. So how is the gender pay gap, parental leave, gender quota or better protection against sexual violence discussed in the Czech Republic? This is what the first episode of the second season of “Six Times Czech Republic” is about, which Daniela Honigmann prepared in collaboration with Ivo Vacík.

On the topic of equality and women’s rights, you will hear interviews with the Czech government’s human rights commissioner, Klára Šimáčková Laurenčíková, with the non-party senator Pavel Fischer and the sociologist Alena Křížková. The chairmen of two Czech NGOs can also be heard: Veronika Šprincová from Fórum 50% and Johanna Nejedlová from Konsent. But first we pay a visit to the Gender Studies organization in Prague.
The podcast “Six Times Czech Republic” is now in its second season and presents six socio-political topics and how they are discussed in this country. It is created in collaboration between the Saxon State Center for Civic Education and Radio Prague International. Both seasons of “Six Times Czech Republic” can be found on all common podcast portals.
