Unbelievable!
A father from Indonesia sells his own child on Facebook. For the equivalent of a mere 800 euros to finance his gambling addiction. Instead of investing in the baby’s future, the pathetic gambler is said to have squandered the money in casinos.
Better to throw dice than change diapers
As Captain Zain Dwi Nugroho, the police chief in the city of Tangerang (Indonesia), confirms, the father arranges the macabre deal on Facebook. “He saw that the buyers wanted a baby, so he messaged them and initiated the sale,” said Nugroho.
But when the infant’s mother comes home and no longer finds her eleven-month-old baby, the father was under massive pressure from his wife for selling off his own child for a quick euro.

Ai Maryati, head of Indonesia’s Child Protection Commission, is horrified: “There is no excuse for treating children this way!” The disturbing case came just weeks after police uncovered another baby smuggling ring, reports the Kompas news portal.
In addition to the father, the police also arrested the buyers. They were found together with the baby in a rented house in Tangerang, reports Kompas. She is now being investigated on suspicion of involvement in a human trafficking network, but no further details are known.
The child’s father now has to answer in court. If convicted, he could face up to 15 years in prison under Indonesian law. (kra)
