Guanajuato, Guanajuato, October 11, 2024.- Within the framework of the World Day to Fight Breast Cancer to be commemorated this October 19, the state of Guanajuato reinforces its actions to raise awareness among the population about the importance of early detection and timely treatment of this disease.
Breast cancer is one of the main causes of death among women in Mexico and in Guanajuato there is an entire system of timely detection and treatment, reported the Secretary of Health Dr. Gabriel Cortés Alcalá.
To serve the female population in the state, there is a wide service network for taking mammography with 17 digitalized devices strategically distributed in each of the Health Jurisdictions, which have health licenses and preventive and corrective maintenance.
Dr. Gabriel Cortés Alcalá explained that as of January to August 2024, 72,974 clinical breast examinations have been performed in the state on women between 25 and 39 years old.
And 31,505 mammograms on women between 40 and 69 years old, of which 96 cases of breast cancer have been detected, who already receive specialized care.
Among the strengths of the Guanajuato Health Secretariat is the Quality of Life for Our Heroines Program, whose objective is to benefit women who, due to some illness in their lives, were mastectomized and/or have a breast deformity caused by another tumor. benign and are candidates for breast reconstruction.
In addition, palliative care with medical attention is provided for the patient with advanced disease, when treatments with curative purposes cannot provide benefits in terms of survival.
Addressing physical, emotional, social and spiritual aspects of themselves and their environment, with promotion, prevention, rehabilitation and care measures to control symptoms, guaranteeing continuity during the disease process.
Counseling is provided on sexual and reproductive health, for the identification of risk signs and symptoms, access to mammography and breast self-examination, as well as clinical breast examination to women from 20 years of age and over 40 years of age. or with a risk history.
Likewise, there is a Service Network that allows the referral of patients for diagnostic confirmation and treatment, applying zero rejection for care to patients who require or request mammograms.
With these actions, Guanajuato joins the global effort to raise awareness about the importance of early detection of breast cancer, seeking to reduce mortality and provide comprehensive support to patients and their families.
