This Thursday October 10 and Friday October 11, 2024, the G7 health ministers met in Ancona (Italy) for the G7 health ministerial meeting. The opportunity for ministers to discuss several major issues for global health such as strengthening international prevention, preparation and response to pandemics, the importance of implementing the “One Health” approach as well as as lifelong prevention policies. Antoine Saint-Denis, delegate for European and international affairs of social ministries, represented France at this ministerial meeting.
« The challenge is to build a partnership model that benefits everyone. » This common thread, defined by the Italian presidency of the G7, illustrates multilateral dynamics engaged to respond with more social justice to the crucial issues of today’s world. This year, the Italian presidency defined three priorities for the sector health :
- Architecture in global health;
- Prevention throughout life;
- The “One Health” approach.

A common message from the G7 on crucial issues for global health
This ministerial meeting made it possible to converge the positions of the G7 members on several crucial issues for health, whether with regard to review of the global health architecture or health innovationsthey particularly expressed their desire to:
- Promote an ambitious strengthening of the global health architecturevia sustainable standards and practices, in particular by supporting the successful conclusion of the negotiation processes initiated since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.
- Commit concretely to the path to universal health coverage (CSU) through lifelong prevention. The G7 notably expressed its support for the fight against a sedentary lifestyle and the consumption of products leading to nicotine addiction, as well as for the promotion of regular physical activity and healthy nutrition, for which the “Nutrition” summit for Growth” organized in Paris on March 27 and 28, 2025, should enable notable progress. Strengthening prevention against sexually transmitted diseases and infections and building a global and transversal approach to mental health are also among the priorities supported by the G7 through this press release.
- Promote the implementation of the “One Health” approachwhich aims to better integrate the health of populations, animals and ecosystems and is essential in the fight against the appearance and spread of new human and animal diseases. Likewise, the G7 expresses its commitment against antimicrobial resistance, by raising public awareness of these issues and maintains its political commitment on health-climate issues and the impact of climate change on our health and societies.
