There are several things that are risk factors for causing PCOS. So what are they? Can PCOS be caused by genetic factors?
Meggie Smith, an ob-gyn who specializes in reproductive endocrinology and infertility in Nashville, said it’s hard to say for sure whether PCOS can be caused by genetics or not.
However, according to Meggie, genetic factors could contribute. On the other hand, the environment or lifestyle can have a greater influence.
“Nobody knows exactly what causes PCOS. We think it’s an interaction between genetics and a person’s environment or lifestyle,” said Meggie, quoted from the Health website on Sunday, August 20 2023.
Another idea regarding the causes of PCOS was presented by Lauren Streicher, a clinical professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University.
“No one would say that PCOS is exclusively genetic, but it is fair to say that there is probably a genetic component that may be associated with PCOS, but it has not been specifically defined and it is multiple -active,” Lauren explained.
