I even thought about walking out of Kamal Haasan’s film Than Me: Rajinikanth
Rajinikanth is the style icon of Indian cinema. Rajini, who ended up as a villain, then stepped into the lead role and became a superstar of Tamil audiences in the blink of an eye. Every time Superstar Rajini was written on screen, fans cheered. Rajinikanth shares his shooting experiences of the 1979 film ‘Arilirunth Arupat Varai’.
Rajini said that the shooting of the film produced by Panchu Arunachalam was at AVM Studio. Rajini also said that Panchu Arunachalam was also doing the movie Kalyanaraman with Kamal Haasan and Sridevi as Kamal’s heroine. Rajini said the shooting of Kalyanaraman was mostly outdoors and her film was shot on one floor of the AVM.
Rajini said that the cast and crew of Kalyanaraman was full of celebrities and especially theater artistes in his film. Rajini said that she felt that her film was not being considered enough and that she was even considering withdrawing from that film.
But Rajini said that the film was a huge success after its release and even today I am happy to see many people talking about the film. Rajini said this at the audio launch of Vettaiyaan.
When I was starting my career as a hero, Sir Panchu Arunachalam was making a film with me as the hero. At the same time, he was also working on another film with Kamal as the hero. I didn’t feel bad at first, but after two or three days, Kamal’s film is more comfortable than me. While Sridevi and Kamal were usually involved in outdoor scenes, I got to film a floor at AVM Studios.
I got mostly great artists and very few drama artists in that movie. They are wearing a shiny dress and I am wearing a shirt and shirt. The thought came that we are not being cared for at all. I even thought of pulling out of that movie. But somehow it was done. ‘Arilirunth Arupat Varai’ is that film and even today many people feel happy when they talk about that film,’ said Rajini.
