Andreas Tsounis: Fofi Gennimata’s husband supports Doukas –

Fofi Gennimata’s husband, Andreas Tsounis, supported the candidacy of Harry Doukas with his post.

“With Haris for the sake of PASOK and the country”, he says characteristically.

The post of Andreas Tsounis

“WITH THE GRACE FOR THE GRACE OF PASOK AND THE COUNTRY
In the June European elections, PASOK’s problem was highlighted. Our strategy was defeated state by state. The choice of the small, closed and fearful party did not yield the expected results at the ballot box. Despite the fact that there was still a slight increase in the percentages of the Movement, the absence of a convincing alternative power proposal to New Democracy prevented the emergence of PASOK as a formidable rival to K. Mitsotakis and his party.

The reasons are pretty well known. The personal communication deficit of N. Androulakis was combined with the alienation of PASOK’s highly valuable and proven fighting force. By far the best political staff the country has. A real civilian superweapon, never used in the last 3 years. Really, how can you be President if you don’t trust all of your executives and don’t give them roles?

On the contrary, the strategy of the ripe fruit was followed: SYRIZA will be dissolved and we will be left alone as an awe-inspiring rival of the New Democracy and when the society gets tired of K. Mitsotakis, it will choose N. Androulakis as Prime Minister. So much had the leadership group believed its narrative that they claimed that, to begin with, we would be the second party in the European elections and then very soon the Government. So simple, so dreamy, so seamless.

The results of the ballot did not only dispel the rumors in the minds of the leadership group, they also attracted the fierce and completely justified reaction of almost the entire parliamentary group and the executive force.

This is how we arrived at the October 6th election, where 5 executives directly challenged N. Androulakis’ ability to remain President, each arguing that they are better. I personally think that the vast majority among them would be much better than Nikos. Thus an informal dichotomy was created between those who would like N. Androulakis to remain President and those who wanted a change of leadership.
However, reaching the second round on Sunday, we see that the desire for a change of leadership is not so strong, immediately, but it is hinted that the incumbent President could remain in his position, until the next definitive removal, apparently in the next national elections elections. It goes without saying that with this rationale, plans to dominate the country’s political life will remain dreams. The worst thing, however, is that the logic of the small party is perpetuated in this way, with the expectation that in 2027 the change of leadership will take place, which theoretically everyone was calling for immediately and which would be unifying, inclusive and would take off PASOK. By then, of course, we will have given the kiss of life to a half-dead SYRIZA, so that it can recover as a worthy political force and compete with us for dominance in the Opposition, and of course New Democracy and K. Mitsotakis can personally and have already started making plans for a 3rd four-year rule of the country, with even more disastrous results for the country.

So the question comes in: what is the alternative we have? As a result, the only choice is Haris Doukas. An executive distinguished by his electoral victory in the Municipality of Athens, defeating the chosen one of the Mitsotakis regime, K. Bakoyannis. Some will ask, is this enough? Is Haris ready for the role of President and tomorrow’s Prime Minister? I don’t hide that I had the same concerns. Personally, I would prefer one of our Members of Parliament to be in the Parliament and fight with Mitsotakis face to face. I had the same doubts when Androulakis became President, but the presence of M. Katrinis as President of the Parliamentary Group was sufficient. So the same thing can happen now, after all, PASOK has excellent parliamentary staff. Thus, PASOK will be seen as a strong group, with a strong parliamentary presence and with a President who, at the level of society, will come closer to social strata and productive bodies, who wish to redistribute income in favor of many of the various cartels that the government openly supports of the ND, strengthening the disbanded National Social Security System and the Social State as a whole, revitalizing the countryside and rural areas and seriously addressing the climate crisis that is dangerously worsening every year in our country.

But, indeed, Haris can do all this, some will say again. As far as I have known him, he seems more unifying, more humane, he seems to believe what he says. But the most important thing is that he seems to want to shake up the stagnant waters, to create political events and above all to believe in the functioning of the big party. A large party that will not function as an organizational pyramid of power, but as a policy production workshop, as a meeting place for PASOK officials and representatives of society, which through constructive dialogue, will form common political positions and a program that will express the many. Why is it very different, comrades and comrades, for us in PASOK to say, Greek people, we have the solution to your problems and it is very different for social organizations and citizens’ representatives to say that PASOK – Movement for Change has the best government program, because we have co-shaped it with them.

In conclusion, the statement of our former President K. Simitis completely covers me. That now we have one chance and the opportunities are not infinite. Let’s give Haris Doukas a chance to lead PASOK – Movement for Change, to take not one more small step, but a leap forward. A leap that the entire Greek people expects from us. A leap for the country to breathe again, freed from the Mitsotakis regime. After all, Haris Doukas is the one who has already succeeded once.”
