According to ADAC, the search for good and cheap car insurance is becoming increasingly confusing because the services offered by providers are becoming increasingly different. According to the automobile club, anyone who wants to change insurer on January 1, 2009 should not only keep an eye on the price, but also the insurance conditions. According to the ADAC, the coverage amount should be 100 million euros. This is the only way to protect drivers against the risk of immense compensation claims in the event of major accidents. The replacement value compensation should be at least six months in the event of a total loss or theft. In good contracts, protection covers at least twelve months. In addition, damage caused by accidents should be covered by comprehensive insurance, even in the event of gross negligence. The general exceptions are theft and driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol. In the opinion of the ADAC, it is still important to ensure the free choice of workshop. If the agreed workshop commitment is made, the customer waives this and leaves the damage settlement to his own insurance company. Goodwill payments and extended guarantee periods can be jeopardized as a result. Also nice: extended comprehensive protection. While in many policies comprehensive coverage is only limited to accidents with wild animals, some providers also pay for damage caused by marten bites and collisions with all kinds of animals. According to ADAC, cheap policies often have poor ratings. Drivers should therefore check to what extent they will be downgraded after an event of damage. Discount savers, for example, ensure that drivers who are classified in high no-claims classes continue to pay the cheapest premium rate of 30 percent even after a claim. The ADAC also points out that the insurance conditions should also include extended liability insurance cover in the event of accidents involving rental cars in other European countries. It is usually possible to change car insurers at the end of the calendar year, as most insurance contracts run from January 1st to December 31st. In these cases, the cancellation must normally be received by the insurance company by November 30th at the latest. In 2008, December 1st applies because the deadline falls on a Sunday.
