/ world today news/ On Sunday, the initiative committee of the Bulgarian international drivers and the branch organizations decided to lift the blockade of all border points on the Bulgarian side. The most important reason is to prevent their actions from being used in the negotiations of Greek farmers with their Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras on Monday, which would make our carriers feel used. All the more so since there have already been claims from the Greek side that the Bulgarian carriers are creating a problem, the Greek farmers had vacated the roadway and the border was free.
The counter-blockade from the Bulgarian side came about because of the unfulfilled promises of the Greek farmers – they had announced a schedule for the passage of trucks, which was not kept. Then, a southwestern association of livestock breeders stated that they understood the problems of Greek farmers, “which is why tolerance was shown on the Bulgarian side, but it was not appreciated”. And the transport minister, in his impotence, supported the counter-blockade.
After its lifting, the Greek side also lifted the blockade along the border, but it is not yet clear whether this is temporary. There are still mile long queues due to slow processing. Earlier, the Greek farmers proposed lifting the blockade for 2 days to withdraw the columns, and then daily windows of 4 hours, but the Bulgarian side refused. The official authorities of Greece claim that this is an illegal protest, but it is beyond their control, said Transport Minister Ivaylo Moskovski, adding that he has never seen a bigger mess with Bulgarians. And we see regularly.
Messing with the Bulgarian people is a way of life for them, a way of governance by the native politicians, and the attitude of the EU towards us. This is known to all of Europe, that’s why they look at us as “second-hand” people. That’s how they treat us, incl. in official reports and public speeches of foreign politicians. Accordingly, they allow themselves all kinds of liberties – ambassadors give advice and interfere in internal politics, our borders are blocked with impunity, media and experts write extremely false, often contrary to reality, statements. Recently, the creator of the currency board, Steve Hanke, came out with an analysis that Italy, Spain, Cyprus and Greece are more miserable and miserable economies than ours. That is why Greek women come to our country to be servants, and Italians and Spaniards are forced to emigrate to Bulgaria – the living conditions are better.
And how can they not allow themselves all kinds of nonsense, as our rulers serve foreign corporate interests, make decisions to the detriment of the entire nation, under the pressure of our Euro-Atlantic masters, sorry – partners. And the Bulgarian people have nothing to do with it. A whole month of blockade and no reaction – neither from the Greek rulers nor from Brussels. To the cries of Prime Minister Borissov, Jean-Claude Juncker responded succinctly: “I’m sorry Boyko, but I have no control over the situation.” The spokesperson of the EC, Lucia Kode, told BNT these days that the Commission is closely monitoring the situation with the blockade. Monitors, but does not take measures. And our rulers remained waiting like a stray dog at the gate. “We have fallen into the absurd situation of negotiating with Greek farmers,” complains our foreign minister, Daniel Mitov. And why in such a situation do you not negotiate with equals in rank – foreign minister of Greece, minister of agriculture, of transport?
It has reached the absurd situation of parliamentary forces in our country voting in the parliament to come up with a joint declaration in which they call on the EC to start criminal proceedings against Greece. It is not the political forces, but the foreign and relevant ministers who should take action. Not only ours, but also the Greek ones.
Let’s remember that in the first weeks of the blockade, neither native nor Greek rulers reacted, just watch the problem pass by itself. The damages for the Bulgarian carriers are already estimated at nearly 15 million euros. These are only their direct losses: travel expenses, fines, fuel, downtime of the trucks, the branch organizations of the transport companies calculate. Indirect – spoiled goods and lost profits, no one can calculate.
The question for our carriers now is to whom and how to make claims for compensation – to the Greek state, the protesting farmers or the European Commission. The practice of the last 7 years shows that Bulgarian carriers and export-oriented companies have not received a single lev of compensation or compensation either from the EU or from court cases. And class action lawsuits hit a dead end.
Where are the Greek authorities in all this? This is the seventh blockade of our border. More than one or two governments were put to the test of solving a problem that did not depend on the Bulgarian authorities and was not caused by the Bulgarian citizens. And almost always these blockades happen in winter, when farmers are not working, and occasions are always found. Whether aimed at hitting our winter tourism, or at competing carriers and economic interests, this intrusive bias reeks. Just for the latest case of a blockade on our border, over 200 small businesses, mostly in South-West Bulgaria, closed down and stopped working due to the lack of raw materials. Production and logistics and the tourist business also suffer.
According to observers, certain classes and political formations allow themselves to solve their internal political problems in this way. However, why are they blocking only the Bulgarian border, and not the Turkish, Macedonian, Albanian? Why can’t the Greek side, with its Ministry of Internal Affairs apparatus, deal with 30 people? The fact that there is no reaction from the Greek government, in general, is also unacceptable. Whether the Greek authorities are tacitly complicit in inaction or fear civil war if they intervene is not a substantive question. It’s a handful of people and the gendarmerie can bring order in a few hours. Such a small group will hardly have the courage without powerful support to face European directives, internal order of the Hellenic Republic and everything else. And no one can handle them. The closure of an international road and a state border is a violation of European norms, an obstacle to the free movement of people and goods, to the activity of post offices, air and rail connections.
After all, what do farmers have to do with the protest demands that Tsipras withdraw the project for changes in the pension and tax system. They are among the most favored with the millions of subsidies received and solid compensations for unrealized production or lost production. And how exactly you will force the government by blocking borders – to block the interior of the country, to create chaos there, will be felt much more. The way of expressing the objections to the Greek government should not lead to the closing of the state border of an EU member state. Greece has a Ministry of Economy, it has a Ministry of Agriculture, where protesters can go and park their tractors, state their demands, and hold dialogues. Even if they want to block the parliament in Athens. What are the Bulgarian citizens guilty of?
Furthermore, the Greek border with Bulgaria is the northernmost point of Greece, and the entire economy of Greece is in the southern part. The main ports – in Athens, Thessaloniki, Patras, etc., continued to work, i.e. the whole industry goes to them. The state has not stopped. At the same time, there is no production in the workshops in Bulgaria, and they are not working. And a number of vegetable markets are empty because we import fruits and vegetables mainly from Greece. In reality, the Greek farmers with the blockade do not help anyone, on the contrary – they cause enormous harm to foreign citizens. Cars with Greek license plates were missed.
And while our drivers could not satisfy basic human needs for days and weeks, the Greek farmers had left their machines at the checkpoint to block the traffic, and they themselves were drinking and having fun in the taverns. And they are just mockingly provoking the Bulgarian drivers. And this is the homeland of democracy? No, in 2016 this is not called democracy – it is terror, says lawyer Boris Harizanov, who was the first to raise a legal claim. Transport Minister Moskovski is right that this is nonsense. But who allowed her, who allows? And how did the EC not react for so long? They are not interested in Brussels, but if a Russian plane flies over – our rulers will immediately build and order what to do. As it is with many other things.
And if now I and about 30 other people go to the border and park our cars as a sign of protest (in Bulgaria there are many things to protest about – the current reforms are from insane to insane), what will happen? Will someone put up with us like this, for days and weeks, or will the police immediately arrest us? Will the EC tolerate us, and the Greeks? When the Prime Minister of the country, Boyko Borisov, admitted that the counter-blockade turned out to be the only means, things were over.
“With normally functioning countries, unfortunately, Greece is not like that at the moment, when one prime minister calls another prime minister, a decision is made. I called him twice about the same thing, and they don’t send the police and gendarmerie to clear the route,” he said. se Borisov these days. According to him, the attitude of the government in Athens is tendentious, and at a time when it is refusing money to erect a fence on the border with Greece.
And what turns out – that each of us can press us, blackmail us, twist our hands? There is no protection from anywhere, and we ourselves as a country are powerless. Not that it is now clear, but to reach such problems from such a small factor (a handful of people acting arbitrarily), and it cannot be solved, should be a warning light for us. It seems in our banana republic the only way left is self-destruction? Who will then blame our carriers for the threat that if there is no solution to the problem and they are not compensated, from June 15 to July 15 the Bulgarian side will stop the entry into Greece.
Then argue about Turkish slavery. Modern slavery, forgive Euro-cohabitation, is much more dangerous, because it only gives people the illusion that they are free, while they are completely dependent and subjugated, and everything is gradually taken away from them. With a smile on his face, and for their “good”. And their security is guaranteed by the Armenian pop.
