Hamm receives a lot of money for more diversity in culture

The Ministry of Culture and Science of North Rhine-Westphalia supports ten cultural locations with the funding program “Audience.Personal.Program-Culture diverse and inclusive” and Hamm is one of them.

Joint application from Hamm

State Secretary Gonca Türkeli-Dehnert handed over the 100,000 euro funding notice to the city of Hamm on Wednesday (October 9th). Together with the Gustav Lübcke Museum, the city archives, the music school, the central library and the adult education center, the cultural office applied for funding and was successful. Hamm was able to prevail over 70 other applications, especially when it came to sustainability, as State Secretary Gonca Türkeli-Dehnert told us.

Uniform strategy in Hamm

After the funding decision has been handed over, everyone involved will develop a common strategy. The company’s own staff should be trained and a network with external partners should be created. One planned project, for example, is that the Gustav Lübcke Museum would like to train people with a migration background to become museum guides and thus expand the team, as museum director Thomas Schmäschke explains to us. In the music school, the funding is used both for staff training and, for example, for the founding of an “international women’s choir,” as music school director Matthias Brakel said.
