There’s still a lot we don’t know about Nvidia’s upcoming RTX 50 series and the RTX 5070, 5080 and 5090 graphics cards However, a new report suggests that Nvidia will increase the target prices for the new generation – again.
Nvidia is expected to reveal the first models from the series of Geforce RTX 50 graphics cards at CES 2025 where Jensen Huang will hold the box. So far, we haven’t heard much more than speculation and rumors regarding the upcoming graphics cards. The latest rumor does not focus on the specifications of the graphics cards. Instead, it is the target prices that are now said to have been published and it does not look good.
according to Moore’s law is dead (MLID) on Youtube, Nvidia is said to have recently discussed the price tags with its partners, one of whom subsequently contacted MLID. According to the Youtuber, the Geforce RTX 5070 will come with a target price of 599 to 600 dollars. This while raster performance should be similar to the RTX 4070 Ti. Here he just says yes rays were found– the performance that should really differentiate the upcoming card from today’s machine.
Geforce RTX 5080 with a 16 GB video memory it is said to cost between $1,199 and $1,499. This would mean the same price tag as the RTX 4080 but at least $100 more than what the RTX 4080 SUPER will cost at launch.
Finally we come to the main menu. According to MLID, Geforce RTX 5090 should land somewhere between 1,999 and 2,499 dollars. So at least $400 more than what the RTX 4090 cost when it launched two years ago. Most complained about Nvidia’s high price tags two years ago, and that story will repeat itself once the RTX 50 series launches.
If this report turns out to be true, we have two upcoming graphics cards with price tags over 1,000 dollars and one of them is not even a flagship product. Should the RTX 5080 land at $1,200, which is at least SEK 12,500 at today’s exchange rate. That is excluding VAT and other charges included. Perhaps the only thing we can do now is just hope that Nvidia will come to its senses and not take advantage of its leading position in the market to the maximum extent.
