The prestigious Sofitel Marina Hotel in Cotonou hosted the grand opening of World Cotton Day, marking a historic first for Benin and for the entire African continent. This event, organized under the auspices of the Beninese government, brought together global players in white gold, political figures, cotton industry experts, international partners, as well as players in the agricultural sector.
In addition to the ceremony and protocol activities, the World Cotton Day 2024 was celebrated with fruitful exchanges and deep reflection on the future of this strategic sector for the African economy. Panels and discussions were held throughoutand two dayswith the participation of several experts and players in the cotton industry.
We will not hide the strong involvement of the FIFA delegation. The global football umbrella organization committed to helping make African cotton a vector of development. This is within the framework of cotton development projects and especially the textile and clothing industry through the Cotton Partnership (WTO-FIFA Partnership). This unique and ambitious collaboration raises hopes in Benin as well as in C-4+ countries that aim to truly integrate into the cotton and textile value chain .
On the evening of October 7, participants in this magazine visited the Glo-Djigbé Industrial Zone (GDIZ), a special economic zone dedicated to the industrial processing of agricultural products, including cotton. This trip allowed international delegations to discover the potential of this area and the large investments made by the Beninese government to turn raw cotton into high value products, thus strengthening the local economy and competitiveness international.
This event marks the beginning of a new era for African cotton, combining innovation, international partnership and industry transformation.
