The Theater an der Wien will be officially opened on October 12th. After two and a half years of construction, the traditional house shines in new splendor. Representatives from culture, politics and business celebrate this important moment in the Viennese theater landscape.
The Theater an der Wien is one of the three major venues of the United Theaters. The general renovation began in spring 2022 and was the first comprehensive renovation since 1962. The work was carried out taking monument protection into account and covered numerous areas: from the facade and the break rooms to electrical systems, ventilation and the construction of a terrace.
Voices for the opening
Stefan Herheim, director of the MusikTheater an der Wien, comments on the modernization: „The beautiful and historic Theater an der Wien has been modernized so that we can build an artistic bridge between the past and present in a contemporary way in the future. Old and new do not form a contradiction here, but rather testify to the continuity of a lively musical theater..“
Season start with a festive opening
The celebrations to mark the completion of the general renovation begin on October 12th in the morning. This special event will be held together with the public, representatives from politics, culture and business as well as numerous people who contributed to the success of the construction project.
