The first concert of the series “Bulgarian basses for Boris Hristov” will be held in the hall of the State Opera – Burgas – on October 11, Friday, at 7 p.m., under the baton of maestro Deyan Pavlov.
The project is implemented with the financial support of the Ministry of Culture.
In addition to the concert on October 11 in the hall of the Burgas Opera, there are upcoming events dedicated to the 110th anniversary of the birth of the world-famous Bulgarian bass Boris Hristov, and in the State Opera – Ruse – on October 24, State Opera – Plovdiv – on October 31, State Opera – Varna – on November 13, and State Opera – Stara Zagora – on November 25.
Idea, script and direction by Plamen Beykov, director of State Opera – Ruse. Soloists at the concert in Burgas will be some of the most prominent Bulgarian basses: Deyan Vachkov, Delyan Slavov, Momchil Milanov, Petar Buchkov, Plamen Kumpikov and Julian Konstantinov.
Here’s what Elena Dragostinova, director of the Boris Hristov National Museum and head of the “Bulgarian basses for Boris Hristov” project, which unites Bulgarian opera houses, orchestras, conductors and soloists in commemorating the 110th anniversary of the birth of the great opera, says about the project artist, educator and donor:
“The stages of Burgas, Varna, Plovdiv, Ruse and Stara Zagora gather in a holiday concert soloists from the listed opera houses, as well as from the Sofia Opera.
The bass have the say, they present a repertoire that is emblematic of Boris Hristov’s world triumphs. Included are solos, ensembles, “handing out” an aria between them, and joint performance by all soloists.
The program is a combination of serious solemnity with artistic banter; a kind of over-singing and a jocular display of supremacy.
The program is a tribute to Boris Hristov and, at the same time, an opportunity to present great Bulgarian voices in a unified performance.
The project is a continuation of the gala concerts and events organized by the “Boris Hristov” Museum in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Berlin, Vienna, Rome, Bratislava, New York, Washington, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal.
These initiatives keep the memory of Boris Hristov alive and present the new generations of Bulgarian artists to the world.”
“I thank the directors of the opera houses and their artistic teams who responded to the invitation to celebrate a great personality together. Boris Hristov, with his creative principles and noble deeds, sets directions worthy of following,” adds Elena Dragostinova.
