Tanning bed king Phil Giesen is dead in Cologne

A body was found on Im Finkenhain street in a house in Cologne’s posh Hahnwald district on Wednesday morning (October 9, 2024).

It is now clear: the dead man was sunbed king Phil Giesen. His girlfriend Claudia Krappel (Cologne’s samba queen, a couple since 2017) confirmed to EXPRESS.de that Giesen’s body had been found.

Giesen, who was 74 years old, is the name behind the “California Sun” tanning bed chain, which he built himself and has since run more than 50 stores. His death is a shock to those around him; Giesen was considered a smart, calm guy.

Even more disturbing: According to information from the Cologne police, there is apparently evidence of a homicide and a murder commission has been set up. Did Giesen have enemies? Was he an accidental victim of brutal perpetrators? There are no answers yet.

According to police information, an employee found the 74-year-old’s body around 9:15 a.m. as he was about to start work.

According to the current status of the investigation, it can be assumed that one or more unknown persons gained access to the house and violently attacked the homeowner there.
