In Mexico, one of the most requested documents to carry out official procedures is the Unique Population Registration Code (CURP), however, for it to be valid it must be certified and updated with the date of 2024.
According to the Government of Mexico, this is a completely free procedure that each person can carry out through the internet and they will only be asked to go to the facilities if they require the document for the first time, not to update it.
The update of the CURP guarantees that the document has the official certification of the National Population Registry (RENAPO) and the Civil Registry of each entity, in addition, it is a requirement to carry out various procedures such as the issuance of the passport, the voting credential of the National Electoral Institute (INE) and the National Military Service Card.
The procedure is carried out through the page https://www.gob.mx/curp/To complete it, you must write the CURP in the ‘Search’ section and if you do not have the information, you can enter the applicant’s personal data: name, surname, date of birth, sex and state.
When completing the fields, it is essential to select the ‘search’ option that will display the official data with year of registration, record number, registration entity and municipality of registration, however, to know if the document is certified you must select the option ‘Download pdf’.
The update is carried out automatically and to verify that the procedure has been completed successfully, the applicant is required to look for the legend “CURP Certified: verified with the Civil Registry” in the document, followed by a letter signed by the Ministry of the Interior with the current date.
There is no deadline to complete the procedure, since it is an official document that can be consulted 24 hours a day through the official RENAPO website and obtaining it guarantees that the procedures are carried out correctly and without problems. .
“The CURP is the “Unique Population Registration Key” assigned to each person of Mexican nationality, whether by birth or naturalization, as well as to foreigners residing in Mexico,” reports the Government of Mexico.
Although the certification is carried out online, the issuance for the first time, the modification of errors and the deregistration are carried out in person at the different branches of the Civil Registry in Mexico with the following documents.
- Registration in the database of the Civil Registry closest to your home
- Copy of birth certificate.
- Official identification.
- FM2 or FM3 format (only in the case of foreign applicants).
