/ world today news/ “The rulers quite often surprise Bulgarian citizens, their partners, as well as foreign partners and Bulgarian business. We should not be surprised when the rulers surprise us. And we shouldn’t be surprised when they promise not to raise taxes before the election, and then they raise them right on the working poor.”
This was stated by the chairman of the BSP, Mihail Mikov, in the Eurocom studio, commenting on the current situation in the governing coalition.
According to him, there is great instability in the ruling majority, about which the opposition has been alarming for a long time – it was created to consume power, it does not have a unified ideological and political basis. “What I signed was for the citizens and for everyone to be able to justify to those who voted for him why he would withdraw from the commitments he made,” he commented. According to him, the coalition rests on arithmetic and not on nationally important goals.
“There are claims of ABV for more power. Power at any cost was looming right from the beginning, so we refused to participate in it, although we had an offer,” Mikov recalled. He explained that the BSP has set several conditions – a progressive tax, social payments to go in line with poverty, because this is one of the biggest problems, as well as the question of the demographic catastrophe. “But the rulers do not want solutions that meet the interests of the majority of citizens,” he commented. Mikov emphasized that, at the suggestion of the BSP, a decision was made to combat the demographic crisis with a deadline of November last year, but Borisov did not implement this decision of the parliament. “Instead, we were offered a strategy with a more distant horizon – 2030. According to our statistics, Bulgaria is decreasing by 40,000 people a year – a city like Kyustendil, for example. If no measures are taken, after 2030 we will decrease by 80,000 people per year,” Mikov is emphatic.
The chairman of the BSP emphasized that last week the left made a proposal for a small adjustment in the support allowances for a child from 1 to 2 years old – to make them equal to the minimum wage, but it was not accepted. “Even ABV voted against, and they are supposedly a social corrective,” he commented. According to him, the demographic problem is not a topic for only one party. The children do not belong to the BSP,” Mikov also said. According to him, in the past year we are at the level of the birth rate since 1945, when men were at war. “From 1989 until now, from 9 million people, now we are chasing 7 million people. That’s why the BSP is talking about a demographic catastrophe and we asked for an urgent convening of the CSNS to the president,” he explained.
Mikov said that next week the left will again propose a reduction in VAT for children’s goods and food. “Parents are less and less planning the birth and raising of a child, and the state is saving money from this,” said Mikhail Mikov.
