Nurse stabbed in mental health center

(ANSA) – FORLÌ, 09 OCTOBER – A nurse at the Mental Health Center of the Meldola Community House, in the Forlì area, was attacked by a patient who stabbed her several times in the neck and one hand, causing minor injuries. The episode happened around 9am. Helped by colleagues and 118 staff, the victim was transported by ambulance to the “Morgagni-Pierantoni” hospital to undergo surgery. The nurse is not in danger of life, but is in a state of shock. The attacker was stopped by the police who intervened. According to the Romagna Local Health Authority, the man “had never previously had any manifestations of aggression and was constantly followed by the Service. The patient had come to receive the therapy and the nurse carried out the administration. At that moment the patient was calm but, immediately afterwards, when it was time to schedule the next appointment, he attacked her with a knife. The nurse defended herself, waiting for the help of the operators who arrived from the other clinics to arrive.” “Unfortunately – says the general director of the Romagna Ausl, Tiziano Carradori – we are faced with further aggression against healthcare workers. We are close to our worker and her family and available to offer all the necessary support, but we are struck by the the fact that, once again, community services and local services, in which our operators, with great diligence and self-sacrifice, offer services to the most vulnerable segments of the population, have revealed an environment of violence and insecurity. We will work with determination to best guarantee the safety of our operators, asking for the support of all institutions to allow the creation of a safer environment”. (HANDLE).
