Aurelien Chouamini Named France’s Captain for Europa League Match Against Israel, Mbappe Absent Due to Injury

The French Football Federation said on Wednesday that midfielder Aurelien Chouamini will lead the national team in their Europa League match against Israel, tomorrow, Thursday, without Kylian Mbappe.

His Real Madrid teammate Mbappe, the regular captain of the French national team, will miss the UEFA Nations League games against Israel and Belgium.

Tshwamini was one of the candidates to wear the captaincy, along with back Gul Kounde and goalkeeper Mike Maigne.

Mbappe, who joined Real Madrid on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain during the summer transfer window, faced criticism in France for his absence from the matches in Budapest and Brussels despite being involved in the Spanish club.

After Israel, France, who are second in their group, face Belgium on Monday.

Mbappe decided to stay at Real Madrid to finish his treatment for a thigh injury.

N’Golo Kante, the captain of the team in the last match against Belgium, will also be absent due to injury.

Thus, Chouamini will become the 132nd captain in the history of the French national team.
