Israel’s Defense Minister Yoav Galand has decided to postpone an official visit to Washington this week, a Pentagon spokeswoman said.
With the postponement of the visit, the discussion he was going to have on the situation in the Middle East with his American counterpart, Lloyd Austin, is postponed until later.
“We have just been informed that Secretary Gallant is postponing his trip to Washington,” spokeswoman Sabrina Singh said, referring the Israeli government for further explanation.
Several Israeli media, citing well-informed sources, claim that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered the minister to postpone his visit. Netanyahu first wants to speak by phone with US President Joe Biden and the Israeli government to approve Israel’s “response” to the Iranian attack on its soil on October 1.
Sabrina Singh said Washington is in touch with the Israelis regarding this “response”. “I won’t speculate on what form it might take,” he added.
