Cyprus participated as an associate member in the IOC since September 2006, with a decision taken during the Organization’s 11th Summit in Bucharest.
As a full member, Cyprus will participate more actively and on a practical level in promoting the goals of Francophonie. Now, it gains the ability to vote on the Organization’s decisions, as well as the right to host a Summit or other large-scale events.
With the new status, Cyprus can claim a place within the IOC, while having a role and a say in the decisions related to the Organization’s policies and governance issues.
With full membership, Cyprus gains access to a large network of countries that operate within the common framework of Francophonie. Common objectives are the further promotion of the French language, cultural and linguistic diversity, as well as the development of dialogue between nations in a spirit of multilateral cooperation and solidarity.
In conclusion, *the decision of the member states of the IOC for the full integration of Cyprus is a sign of the confidence of the great Francophone family in our country, as well as recognition of Cyprus’ commitment to the principles and values of Francophone and the promotion of the French language in general
