Actor Herman Finkers wins Edison Klassiek audience award

Herman Finkers has won the Edison Klassiek audience award. The 69-year-old actor won the award at the Edisons Jazz and Classical awards ceremony.

Finkers won his Edison for the Missa Sancti Georgii, which he composed, performed by Capella Amsterdam and Holland Baroque. The jury named Finkers “one of the most productive musical figures in the Low Countries for more than three decades”.

He was also praised for his ability to handle different styles of music. “Finkers is an unconventional, omnivorous, innovative, iconic and extremely sympathetic personality and musician,” wrote the jury.

Singer Dennis van Aarsen won the audience award in the jazz category. The winner of the talent show The Voice of Holland received the award for his album Just Call It Love, a collaboration with composer Jeff Franzel.

Saxophonist Benjamin Herman (jazz) and pianist Ronald Brautigam (classical) both received a lifetime achievement award.
