Russia says it has financed thousands of police officers in Latin America – 2024-10-08 01:09:46

Russia has trained 2,353 police officers from 13 countries Latin America in it Training Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in Managua -sanctioned for USA-, said this Tuesday the Moscow ambassador in Nicaragua, Alexander Khokholikov.

The Russian diplomat, who concluded his mission in Nicaragua, described as “successful work” that carried out by the Russian Training Center in the Nicaraguan capital “by training more than 2,353 police officers from 13 Latin American countries since 2017 to develop cooperation in the sphere of security and public order.”

In mid-May, the United States launched a round of sanctions against the Government of Nicaragua that affect dozens of officials and companies, for “attacking” human rights and being “complicit in the exploitation of migrants.”

In a parallel action, the Treasury Department sanctioned three entities based in Nicaragua, including the Training Center of the Russian Ministry of the Interior in Managua, which, according to Nicaraguan opponents, functions as a center of repression and espionage.

During the farewell ceremony of the Russian ambassador, attended by Nicaraguan authorities, and reported by the official press in Managua, Khokhólikov highlighted the “strengthened and fraternal cooperation” bilateral relations between Russia and Nicaragua.

He recalled that he arrived in Nicaragua on November 10, 2020 “with a great desire to further promote bilateral relations, brotherhood, strategic relations and projects for the mutual benefit of our countries and the Central American region.”

He maintained that upon his arrival in Nicaragua he worked in adverse conditions due to the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as the “drastic sanctions applied by the collective West against Russia and Nicaragua.”

Russian programs in Nicaragua

The Russian ambassador in Managua, who comes from the Russian Ministry of the Interior, where he has worked for more than 35 years, mentioned among the most relevant events during his mission, in addition to the training of officers in the Training Center, the operation of the Latin American Institute of Biotechnology (Mechnikov)which allowed the supply to Nicaragua of the Sputnik V and Sputnik Light vaccines.

He also said that “an important push has been given to establish Nicaragua’s contacts with the Eurasian Economic Union and the BRICS,” as well as the intensification of “permanent parliamentary contacts between the United Russia Parties and the Sandinista National Liberation Front (FSLN). .

In addition, he stated that upon his arrival they reestablished the program for granting Russian state scholarships, including special professions that cover the topic of biotechnology and peaceful use of atomic energy.

Likewise, Khokholikov said that Russia has contributed to the modernization of public transportation in Nicaragua, and supplied wheat that is part of the school snack given to schoolchildren.

The war in Ukraine

Laureano Ortega Murilloson of the Nicaraguan president, Daniel Ortegaand the vice president, Rosario Murilloand who holds the position of presidential advisor for Investments, Trade and International Cooperation, and special representative of the President of Nicaragua for Affairs with Russia, recognized the “admirable” work of the Russian ambassador.

«The ambassador arrived in a difficult period for the world when the effect of the pandemic was still there and during his period in our country, Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine began. That operation is for world peace, for the lives of the people of the world, against Nazism, against fascism,” Ortega Murillo expressed at the event.

He stressed that Nicaragua considers Russia “a fundamental pillar in the formation of this new world order, in the promotion of multilateralism.”

Ortega is the main ally in Central America of the president of Russia, Vladimir Putin.

Russia is a former ally of Nicaragua that during the first Sandinista Government (1979-1990) provided Soviet weapons to the Nicaraguan Armed Forces. EFE (I)
