There’s a lot going on at Sky at the moment. Because it won’t be long until the Bundesliga rights are awarded. The pay TV broadcaster must be shaking quite a bit because the streaming service DAZN is getting serious.
In the midst of the rights battle, there is good news for Sky. The reason: of all things, the Bundesliga. The pay TV broadcaster from Munich can celebrate.
Sky: Great Bundesliga news!
On Saturday (October 5th) it was the 6th matchday for Sky and the Bundesliga. In addition to the conference, Borussia Dortmund’s individual game at Union Berlin in particular brought good ratings for the company. An average of 1.14 million viewers watched in the afternoon. The market share was 10.9 percent. Among 14 to 49 year olds, 22.8 percent were measured, which is the highest value of the current season after the first match day.

Sky attracted 440,000 people in the classic target group. This meant that the pay-TV channel was well ahead of all of the private broadcasters’ primetime programs. Sat.1 and RTL 2 achieved good ratings for their films, but were well behind Sky.
Rights decision is getting closer
As strong as the numbers were with the Bundesliga conference, there was a bit of bad news just a few hours later. The top game on matchday 6 was St. Pauli against Mainz. Accordingly, the game “only” reached 440,000 people. So few viewers have tuned in this season.
For comparison: last week almost two million fans watched the game between FC Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen. Nevertheless, Sky had a good 4 percent market share on Saturday.

The DFL recently announced that rights package B, which includes the Saturday games at 3:30 p.m. as well as the individual games on Friday evening and the relegation (a total of 196 games per season), will be re-tendered. DAZN has high hopes, Sky, on the other hand, has to tremble.
