Microsoft Renames 343 Industries to Halo Studios: Major Changes and Unreal Engine 5 Transition for Future Halo Games

(PressFire.no): Microsoft has announced that there will be changes when it comes to the future of the “Halo” series.

In recent years, the studio 343 Industries has been working on “Halo”, and they released “Halo Infinite” in 2021.

They will now be renamed Halo Studios and will continue to be the main center that will control the development of the series further – and they refer to this as a sort of reboot of the a whole studio.

The plan now is to hire several new developers within all “branches” of game development.

At the same time, the new company says that they are dropping their own game engine and moving the series over to Unreal Engine 5. Before that, the “Halo” games were ‘run on a self-made engine called Blam (and the latest version of this, which powered “Infinite”, called Slipspace).

In a video about the move, the developers say they had to be a tech company as well as a game company because they also had to make an engine – but now they can focus on just the games .

Halo Studios calls the whole process “Project Foundry” and says that “projects with unreal power are being developed.”

Less than two years ago it became clear about 100 of the 343 Industries employees were fired – in the same big break where Microsoft cut a total of 10,000 employees.
