Madonna mourns the death of her brother, Christopher Ciccone

The singer’s brother, who appeared in several of her music videos and who was the artistic director of her Blond Ambition world tour, died this Friday, October 4, at the age of 63, from cancer.

A painful loss for Madonna. On Instagram, the singer paid a moving tribute to her brother, Christopher Ciccone, who died this Friday, October 4, from cancer at the age of 63.

In her post, the artist confides that her brother was “the human being she was closest to since she was little” and that the latter “suffered a lot at the end of his life”.

“It’s difficult to explain our bond. But it was born from the fact that we understood that we were different and that society was going to give us a hard time because we didn’t follow the norm,” confides the singer.

“We held hands and danced through the madness of our childhood, in fact dance was a kind of super glue that held us together. (…) My brother was a painter, a poet and a visionary , I admired him,” she adds.

“There will never be anyone like him.”

Artist, dancer and designer, Christopher Ciccone has collaborated on several occasions with Madonna. He notably appeared in several music videos of his sister such as Lucky Starprovided artistic direction for her Blond Ambition world tour in 1990 and directed her The Girlie Show tour in 1993.

Christopher Ciccone, however, had a falling out with Madonna in 2008, after the publication of her autobiography Life With My Sister Madonnain which he discussed their strained relationship, his romances and memories of their joint tours.

Returning to their argument in her tribute, Madonna nevertheless confides that despite “difficult” moments in recent years, she ended up reconciling with her brother.

“The last few years haven’t been easy. We didn’t speak for a while, but when my brother got sick, we found our way back to each other,” she says.

And to conclude: “He was in so much pain towards the end, but once again we held hands, we closed our eyes and we danced together. I am happy that he is no longer in pain, there is no I’ll never have anyone like him. I know he’s dancing somewhere.”
