The Littoral Atlantique Hospital Group, which manages the emergencies of the La Rochelle hospital, is communicating about a situation of tension in the service. They ask patients to call 15 before going to the hospital. Not to the taste of the SUD union which is alerting.

“We are transforming the public hospital into a healthcare industry”denounces Christophe Geffré, nurse at La Rochelle hospital and departmental secretary of the SUD union.
The hospital group justifies its message. “The emergency activity at La Rochelle hospital reflects strong tensions.”
In this context, the Emergency Department remains open, however, the population is asked to call 15 before going directly to the emergency room.

According to the unionist: “There is no tension in this service. We are not in a period of illnesses like bronchiolitis for example. There is absenteeism because we are not recruiting and we are using up the So, we get the population used to these new instructions and they make an appointment with the doctor instead of going to the emergency room.”
This device is “a way of training the population to no longer use this public service.”, this is how the union interprets the situation.
According to Christophe Geffré, this device is “policy”. The situation could be avoided “if we give the public service the means back. Management tells us that it cannot recruit, we are overwhelmed with requests for applications! Their ultimate goal: to operate like a private clinic with public funding”, explains Christophe Geffré. He is also alarmed by the closure of pediatric emergencies in Rochefort.
When we start to close emergency rooms, we endanger the population.

In 2024, the La Rochelle hospital has deployed this system five times, including one for pediatric emergencies. “Our working conditions correspond to your care conditions”concluded Christophe Geffré.
