At the convention held in Hradec Králové, the party delegates present elected the former Minister of Labor and Social Affairs with 101 votes out of 146 valid, in the first round. The term of office of the Presidency is three years.
In her candidate speech, Maláčová criticized the current government and its approach to solving the economic crisis. “The government has raised taxes, but we don’t have better public services. Wages are low and neighboring states are ahead of us in this regard. The standard of living dropped unprecedentedly during the government led by the ODS,” said Maláčová. In her speech, Maláčová also addressed topics such as raising the retirement age and privatization of the healthcare sector.
Former Minister for Human Rights and Equal Opportunities and Senator Jiří Dienstbier and representative of Prague 12 Petr Hůla also applied for the post of chairman.
