Elżbieta Zapendowska is one of the most respected vocal experts in Poland. She trained many singers and artists who are still conquering the local music scene. What was her path to the top like? Has the most popular voice specialist already come to terms with the fact that she is losing her eyesight?
The phenomenon of Elżbieta Zapendowska
– He has incredible vocal intuition. After listening to a few sounds, a few bars, he knows whether someone is capable or better off becoming a good cook or a good seamstress – says Łukasz Zagrobelny about the guru of vocal trainers.
In her youth, Elżbieta Zapendowska was called the “devil incarnate”. – I was a very polite child until I was 6 years old, until I went to school. I went to school and it started. (…) There was a lot of rebellion in me, but also laughter at stupidity – the music critic recalls in the Dzień Dobry TVN material.
After graduation, she worked at a music school and at a general school in Opole, where Michał Bajor passed his high school final exams with her.
– I was quite familiar with musical literature, and I also listened to jazz. And I really wanted to work in this industry, in entertainment. I left the school, went to the Provincial Cultural Center and it all started. It was 1977. I was more lucky than smart. Such talented people volunteered. In September I started working at WDK, and in June we won the first prize at the Opole festival in debuts – says the voice specialist.
Elżbieta Zapendowska’s vision problems
Elżbieta Zapendowska recently conducted her last music workshops. Due to his health condition and gradual loss of eyesight, he intends to slowly withdraw from this form of work.
– It’s really a big discomfort if I don’t see the singer. It’s not about whether he’s pretty or ugly, what matters is what posture he has when singing, what his body language is, what his facial expressions are, because the voice itself is suitable for the radio, but it’s too little to make it believable and authentic. – explains the vocal coach.
– He has no eyesight, he practically cannot see. But he is very good at sensing what is around us, i.e. what situation we are in. (…) This glaucoma is inoperable at this stage. There’s nothing that can be done here. I think that Elżbieta has already come to terms with it, that it won’t get any better and she is happy with what is happening now. – comments Konrad Majchrzak, assistant and friend of Elżbieta Zapendowska, in the material Dzień Dobry TVN.
Elżbieta Zapendowska about vision loss
Elżbieta Zapendowska appeared in the Dzień Dobry TVN studio. In a conversation with Maciej Dowbor and Krzysztof Zalewski, she talked about vision problems.
– I think you have to come to terms with what happens in life. For years, I had been preparing for the moment when I wouldn’t be able to distinguish a woman from a man. I’m not complaining, I’m not making a big deal about it. People have bigger problems in life than me – said the vocal expert.
One of the topics of the interview was, of course, music. What species does our guest like the most?
– Privately, I’ve been listening to a lot of alternative music lately. I don’t listen to pop music at all because it bores me so much. I can’t listen to any festival because it’s so boring, these simpering girls. I listen to a lot of internet radio. “That’s enough for me,” she pointed out.
The singing teacher educated many famous stars of the Polish stage, but also amateur singers.
– I believe that to be good at any profession, you need to be a bit intelligent and like your profession. Many people think that if they go to Zapendowska, they will make a career. And this is where they made a mistake. I have never helped anyone in the sense of praising someone without a reason. Never. On the contrary. If someone is talented, I try to make them give even more. To think, to think, to make it not empty. I can’t stand singers who have a blank eye. I have expressed this many times and I have been beaten for it more than once – emphasized the guest of Dzień Dobry TVN.
