No plans to move

According to Helena’s Instagram updates, their cohabitation has not been peaceful, but the couple has argued over their territories, for example. Due to violent disputes, even the authorities have had to be called to the scene.

Helena says in the podcast that she has received questions related to housing patterns. Some social media followers have suggested that Helena get a rental apartment to calm the situation.

– Why would I move out of there and rent a small room somewhere, when things are tight now anyway? It’s my room and my home. There are my things and there are the children’s things, Helena answered.

Helena specifies in the episode that she cannot afford to rent an apartment at the moment. Helena plans to move out of the guest house when she gets her share.

– When I get my share, I will leave there happily and quickly, Helena said.

– Would you just give away your share of the home? Without any compensation, right? I don’t think many people would do that, Helena thought.

The Koivs have had legal battles over their financial affairs before.

According to Koivu’s marriage contract, Helena has no right to Miko’s property after the divorce. The prenuptial agreement also stipulated that in the event of a divorce, Mikko would pay Helena one million euros for her work as a housewife.

According to court documents published in 2023, after the 2020 divorce, Mikko has paid his wife about 1.1 million dollars, i.e. about one million euros, which includes, among other things, credit card bills for about $658,501, about 598,864 euros.

The former ice hockey player has also paid his wife’s living expenses, as well as more than half a million for Helena’s legal expenses. All in all, the court considers that Mikko Koivu has paid his ex-wife or on her behalf expenses for a total of 1,838,756 dollars. In euros, the amount is approximately 1.67 million.

According to the court, Helena’s financial situation cannot be called unstable after the money paid. Helena herself answered the court that she could not save any of the money and needs more financial support. The court did not consider the demand reasonable.

Legal loss

The family previously lived together in the United States in Minnesota, where Mikko played ice hockey on a local team. After finishing his career, Mikko moved to Finland with the children and Helena stayed in the United States. Helena moved from the United States to Finland in May 2024.

A US court decided in April 2023 that the children’s place of residence will be Finland in the future. At that time, the parents had announced that they were ready to live in the same country as their children.

The custody dispute was handled in the summer in Finland in the District Court of Varsinais-Suomen. Helena Koivu demanded that the decisions of the Minnesota court be changed and that she be granted sole custody of the children.

At the end of September, it was reported that the Court of Appeal will not take up the custody dispute between the ex-couple. Helena Koivu had appealed the June decision of the District Court of Varsinais-Finland to the Court of Appeal of Turku, which did not grant permission for further proceedings in the case.

The matter was corrected on 5.10. at 3:15 p.m. Contrary to what was claimed earlier in the story, Mikko Koivu does not live in the Kakskerran property.
