Mexico City, The United States government expressed its “great optimism” to deepen the relationship with Mexico in the new chapter that opens with the arrival of our nation’s first president, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo.
The US ambassador to Mexico, Ken Salazar, released a statement in which he joined the position of President Joe Biden, the first lady Jim Biden and the Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, to celebrate that Sheinbaum has been sworn in as President.
“This is North America’s moment and the fact that Mexico has its first female president gives us hope as a region. I wish you success and reaffirm our commitment to continue advancing together in our shared goals as a family,” he stated.
He highlighted that in the last four years, the Biden government period, Mexico and the United States became the main trading partners.
“We have made historic achievements to stop drug, weapons and human trafficking, as well as addressing migration as a shared responsibility. In addition, we advance in clean energy and the fight against climate change.”
The diplomat expressed his government’s willingness to continue collaborating on a comprehensive agenda with a view to 2030.
“We are very optimistic about this new chapter in our bilateral relationship to deepen our cooperation,” which is partly based on the USMCA, dialogue and understanding.
“I look to the future with renewed hope for what we have achieved together as partners and for what we can achieve through dialogue and cooperation for the security, prosperity and development of our nations.”
For Salazar, the T-MEC and shared democratic values “serve as a basis to provide us with certainty and base our cooperation for the well-being of our people.”
He stated that the T-MEC provides “a great opportunity” to continue deepening integration and taking advantage of the opportunities that arise from the agreement and from relocation.
“We will continue working to build an exemplary 21st century border that is modern, safe and efficient.”
