The first FF-JLT will take place at SPORTCAMPUS SAAR on October 5th and 6th, 2024. 12 regional associations provide a total of 17 teams to determine the best national selection in Germany.
For years, the AFVD federal association has been organizing an annual youth national tournament for the U19 national association teams in tackle football.
At the instigation of AFCV Saar, youth national tournaments for the U16 and U14 age groups will be held for the first time in 2024 with a view to the Olympics. The background is the decision of the IOC (International Olympic Committee) to officially include flag football as a sport in the program of the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles at its 141st General Assembly in October last year. As a new Olympic sport, the importance of flag football will increase in the future, which is why youth work in flag football in the AFVD should be intensified. The result is the youth national tournament for the flag football teams of the individual regional associations, which is taking place for the first time this weekend.
The importance that the individual regional associations attach to this promotion of young talent is shown by the high number of reports, which is surprising for a premiere. With Schleswig-Holstein, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Berlin-Brandenburg, Hamburg, Lower Saxony, Saxony, Hesse, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate, Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria and of course host Saarland, 12 of the 15 state associations organized in the AFVD have at least one U16 Selection reported. There are also the U14 selections from the associations Berlin-Brandenburg, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate, Baden-Württemberg and Hesse.
The U16 tournament, which costs no entry, starts on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. The game is played on 4 courts at the SPORTCAMPUS SAAR. The quarter-finals will be played at 5:45 p.m. at the end of the first day. Sunday is reserved for the placement games, starts at 9:00 a.m. and ends with the final at 2:00 p.m.
The U14 tournament is played in a free-for-all mode. The first game will be played on Saturday at 10:45 a.m. The final two games take place on Sunday at 12:45 p.m.
Some games in the tournament will be broadcast live on Sportdeutschland.
