This Tuesday, October 1, 2024, students returned to school for the start of the 2024-2025 school year. In Orodara in Kénédougou, schools opened their rooms for the “tenants” of the building. Watch!
It is 7am when we arrive at Djongolo Traoré regional high school in Orodara on 1 October 2024. The courtyard of the establishment is full of people. Students talk among themselves, reunions for some, concerns for others. Some students and parents attack the management of the establishment with files in hand, to find a way out of their situations. The secretaries are busy, the principal, the manager, are called upon everywhere. It was in this atmosphere that we met Rodrigues Y. Traoré, the first manager of the center. “We can say that we are ready for this beginning of the school year. As a main activity we call roll and establish students in their own classes. This is a special start to the school year, as it coincides with the education days. The second group started yesterday (September 30, 2024: editor’s note). The work takes place in the workshop. For this, some rooms in the center will be used. As for internally displaced students, they will come slowly to enroll.” The students, for their part, sit or stand in small groups, waiting for the call to get to know their rooms like Antoinette Drabo. “I’m new here. After getting into the BEPC at CEG sector 6 in Orodara, I was directed to Djongolo Traoré regional high school in Orodara. I’m waiting to pay my tuition and find out about my room,” she explained. Louckmane Barro, from Serekeni village in Djigouera society, is also waiting to be appointed. “I attended EL Bayane private high school in Serekeni last year and came to Djongolo to continue my studies,” he says.
Teachers are also moving for success this year. And, many of them were present for the educational days mentioned above. At the high school office, it is a special event; parents are active in their children’s education and enrollment. Moussa Konaté came to manage his daughter’s school for the last year. “It’s normal that there are people there this morning, because everyone wants a place for their child. I am also here to find a place for my daughter,” he suggests. When we left the building, the high school courtyard continued to receive people and people were busy picking up the colours.
