For Jong Ajax, the away match against Helmond Sport was the second match of the week. The Amsterdam promising team came into action against FC Dordrecht on Monday. The meeting at the De Toekomst sports complex ended in a 0-1 draw.
The first half in North Brabant was anything but spectacular. The home team let Jong Ajax have the ball. The Ajax players were in control, but this did not lead to great opportunities. Helmond Sport also failed to create any danger, causing both teams to rest with a 0-0 score.
Young Ajax started the second act strongly. The first big chance of the match was a hit. After a well-played attack over several checkers, Wolff scored from close range: 0-1. For the eighteen-year-old Ajax player it was his first goal in professional football.
Late equalizer Helmond Sport
Partly thanks to some great reflexes from Charlie Setford, Jong Ajax held out for a long time in Helmond. Yet things went wrong for the Amsterdam promising team in the 84th minute. Redouane Halhal shot a cross hard into the roof of the goal: 1-1.
In injury time, the same Halhal received a red card after the center defender tackled the broken through Amourricho. Despite the surplus, Jong Ajax managed to get away twice. Substitute Anthony van den Hurk hit both the post and the crossbar in the absolute final phase. There were no more goals, meaning Peereboom’s team returned to Amsterdam with a point.
