The news emerged during a recent promotion for Joker: Folie à Deux, where the actor referred to Rooney as “his wife” on the Talk Easy podcast with Sam Fragoso. This comment has fueled speculation about a possible marriage that had never been publicly confirmed.

Phoenix and Mara met on the set of the movie Her in 2012, although their official relationship began in 2016. The couple has maintained a low profile throughout their romance, opting for discretion and avoiding the media spotlight. In 2019, they got engaged, and have since welcomed two children.
