Susanne de Roy of Zuidewijn-Rive becomes the new mayor of Ouder-Amstel

The municipal council of Ouder-Amstel has nominated Susanne de Roy van Zuidewijn-Rive (57) as the new mayor of the municipality. De Roy van Zuidewijn currently works as a consultant at Hill & Knowlton, where she advises public and private organizations on positioning issues, decision-making processes and communication processes. From 2018 to 2022 she was a councilor (CDA) in the municipality of Bloemendaal and before that a councilor and faction leader in Amsterdam, Stadsdeel Zuid (2014-2018).

The future mayor lives in Amsterdam, is married and the mother of five children. She says about her nomination: “How honorable that I will soon be able to work here as mayor. Thank you to the council for your trust. I have enjoyed coming to Ouder-Amstel for a long time. A municipality that has a unique trio of villages with Duivendrecht, Ouderkerk and De Waver. I look forward to meeting the residents of this diverse community and hearing their stories and ideas.”

Connecting style of leadership

The city council’s confidential committee describes De Roy van Zuidewijn as a driven and decisive director. Wendela van Agtmaal, chairman of the confidential committee, explains: “Susanne has a listening ear and strives for cooperation. She has an eye for all people in society and has the qualities to guide difficult discussions or sharp debates, with a touch of humor where necessary. We are convinced that as mayor of Ouder-Amstel she will be a balanced and committed liaison figure.”

Installation in December

Susanne de Roy van Zuidewijn’s nomination has now been sent to the Minister of the Interior and Kingdom Relations. The final appointment is made by Royal Decree. De Roy van Zuidewijn is expected to be officially installed and sworn in by the King’s Commissioner on December 19.
