On October 14, the joint vaccination campaign against flu and Covid-19 will begin throughout the Valencian Community, which will be carried out in stages, giving priority to the population groups in which those people are included. who could be at higher risk of complications from the infection.
The Minister of Health, Marciano Gómez, has indicated that the vaccination strategy “will be carried out in a phased manner with the aim of immunizing the target population and the most vulnerable people as soon as possible.”
The first group with which the vaccination campaign will begin is residents of centers for the elderly and those with functional diversity.
Gómez has pointed out that experts recommend immunization, “since the effectiveness of both vaccines is demonstrated by the decrease in serious cases and complications secondary to the flu, such as pneumonia or the increased risk of myocardial infarction or stroke, which “which means fewer hospital admissions, especially for the population at risk of complications.”
Four priority groups
The Ministry of Health has designed four priority groups to carry out the campaign. Starting this month of October, SMS will be sent to those who belong to these groups, depending on the prioritization shift so that they can come and get vaccinated.
On the other hand, once the vaccination of priority groups is completed, Health will begin immunization of the general population next November.
The first group with which the vaccination campaign will begin is residents of centers for the elderly and those with functional diversity. Likewise, this group includes people admitted to other social and health centers (residents in social service institutions and those admitted to chronic hospitals).
Likewise, health, non-health and social health personnel in these centers, and in the Primary Care, Hospital and Health Emergency Services centers, will be vaccinated, who will receive the vaccine in the occupational risk prevention services of their work centers. .
On the other hand, the second group includes the population over 60 years of age, who will be scheduled at their usual health center, except in those cases of chronically dependent patients or those who cannot travel to the health center, who will receive the vaccine at home.
During last year’s campaign, more than 1,162,000 people were vaccinated against the flu, the highest number to date
Pregnant women have been included in the third prioritization group, who can be vaccinated against flu and Covid-19 at their health center. In addition, it contemplates people from 5 to 69 years old who are at risk who can also be vaccinated at their Primary Care center.
Finally, the fourth prioritization group will be people who work in essential public services, people living with risk groups, children between 5 and 18 years of age undergoing treatment with acetylsalicylic acid, people with exposure to animals or their secretions, smokers, and people from 18 to 59 years of age who request it, as long as there is no contraindication.
During last year’s campaign, more than 1,162,000 people were vaccinated against flu, being the highest number reached in the Valencian Community. By province, 428,806 people in the province of Alicante, 123,796 in Castellón and 609,431 people in the province of Valencia were vaccinated against the flu.
