José Mourinho, the trainer of Fenerbahçe, saw an equal match between his team and FC Twente on Thursday evening. The Portuguese is satisfied with a point in the group stage of the Europa League.
There was a sentiment in Enschede that Twente was selling itself short, Mourinho argued the same at Ziggo Sport. ‘I think we could have won too. When it was 0-0, the two best chances of the match fell for us. We then have to score, then it’s a different game. But I have to say they were very good and we were in trouble after being 1-0 down.’
The Special One had compliments for FC Twente. ‘They were better before half time, after half time it was up to us. We knew they could defend well down low, and they did that well against Manchester United. I think it was a good match with a great result between two teams that wanted to win. After the 1-1 we tried to win, but this is also a positive result for us. At the end we just cherished that.’
The point, taken by a flash of class from Sofyan Amrabat and Dusan Tadic, satisfies Mourinho. ‘His experience makes him ice cold in front of goal. Sofyan Amrabat’s pass is also great. We worked on this on Wednesday. Amrabat saw it and Dusan gave us a point. And yes, in this format every point is a point won, because we have no idea how many we need.’
