The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, received full honors from the Armed Forces this Thursday upon her inauguration as Supreme Commander.
In an unprecedented ceremony at Campo Marte, the military swore firm loyalty and deep respect to him to promote his national project.
“As the first female president, you take the helm,” the Secretary of the Navy, Raymundo Pedro Morales, told her.
Meanwhile, the Secretary of National Defense, Ricardo Trevilla, emphasized, in recognition of the dependence on the role of women: “Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, an unprecedented fact in our future, and why we are united for the salutation when command of troops is assumed.”
As the first woman to head the Government of the Republic, Sheinbaum toured in a Humvee, flanked by the heads of the Sedena and the Navy, the ranks of the Army, Navy, Mexican Air Force and National Guard.
In the salutation ceremony, the president received, in addition to the traditional greeting of generals and admirals, that of women of the Armed Forces; the brigadier general, Mariana de La Cruz Sánchez, as well as lieutenant colonels, captains, soldiers, agents, rear admirals and naval women.
“We welcome to this ceremony the Constitutional President of the United Mexican States and supreme commander of the Armed Forces,” was heard in Campo Marte.
At the end of Sheinbaum’s tour, they fired salutes in honor of the President. They performed the military salute in his honor “as the greatest sign of respect and loyalty.”
President speaks out against attacks on migrants
The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, spoke out today against the attacks that elements of the army committed against undocumented migrants.
“It cannot be repeated,” so the necessary measures are being taken to do so, the president emphasized.
He regretted the murder of the migrants by, presumably, members of the Mexican Army, and stressed that the facts are already being investigated.
Interrogated this Thursday morning at the National Palace, the president indicated that the two soldiers accused by the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena) of having shot at the migrants were already placed at the disposal of the corresponding authority and the Attorney General’s Office. República (FGR) investigates the case.
“It is a regrettable fact and must be investigated and punished. The Sedena elements who fired are already placed at the disposal of the FGR,” he indicated.
He stressed that it is up to the prosecution to investigate these events, how they occurred, the responsibilities of the soldiers accused of having fired and whether there is additional responsibility of commanders.
The head of the Executive stressed that she gave instructions to the head of the Sedena, General Ricardo Trevilla Trejo, to take measures so that a situation like this is not repeated.
He said that the migrants allegedly murdered by the military were from Egypt, El Salvador and Peru.
For this reason, the Secretariats of Foreign Affairs and the Interior are already establishing contact with the families of the victims for the repatriation of the bodies.
