Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei delivered a public address to the people of Iran during the Friday prayer on October 4.
He himself, under the shadow of the assassination of Hassan Nasrallah, but also of Tehran’s missile attack on Israel, fired at the “common enemy” of the Muslim arch. His opponent, as he demonstrated, is none other than the Israeli government.
Through his fiery speech, the leader of the Islamic Republic tried to unite the Arab people, but also to reiterate his country’s support for Hamas and Hezbollah. His speech was essentially addressed not only to the Iranian people, but also to its regional allies.
What Ali Khamenei’s speech signifies
Ali Khamenei addressed the audience after a memorial service for Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, who was killed in Israeli airstrikes in Beirut. Ayatollah made his speech, under the photo of the high-ranking official of the Lebanese organization, while through this he tried to show that he continues the vision of his ally. It is worth noting that he himself, during his 40-minute speech, had a rifle at his feet.
Israel is an absolute and common enemy
“The policies adopted by our enemy want to sow the seed of discord among Muslims. The same enemy is for the Palestinians, the Lebanese, the Egyptians and the Iraqis. The same enemy is for the people of Yemen and Syria,” underlined the leader of Iran. In this way, he himself tried to make felt the confluence that the Muslim arc possesses, or should possess.
He pointed to Israel as the ultimate enemy, which bases its strategy on an expansionist and destructive policy. “The enemy works everywhere with a certain method. If it ends in one country, it will move on to the next,” he noted on the subject.
Ali Khamenei claimed that Iran’s strike on Israel was the “minimum punishment” for its “extreme crimes”. Adding, that “we will not delay or rush to fulfill our duty”, preparing the government of Benjamin Netanyahu, but also the West for the possibility of a more powerful conflict.
“It will be done at the right time and it will be done again in the future if necessary,” he characteristically said, and emphasized that the Islamic Republic will neither hesitate nor rush for the next attack. However, what is clear from his words is the fact that this war situation is not going to stop soon.
The attacks on October 7 are justified
Ali Khamenei further referred to the legal right of every nation to attack its opponents. Through his speech, he emphasized that Palestine and Hamas rightly acted in the attack of October 7, 2023, in order to limit Israel. “The Palestinian people have the legal right to defend themselves. To resist these criminals – the occupying power,” he specifically pointed out. At the same time, in his speech, he added the great importance of Hezbollah continuing to attack Israeli territories, as it provides a “vital service throughout the region.”
At the same time, Israel “cannot seriously harm” the Shiite Lebanese movement, many of whose officials have been killed in recent days in Israeli army operations, Khamenei stressed.
“Every country, every people has the supreme right to defend themselves against absolute tyranny,” Ayatollah noted earlier, reading verses from the Koran at a memorial service for former Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.
Nasrallah’s wish
“Hassan Nasrallah’s wish for Lebanon and Hezbollah would be to not be disappointed. Israel pretends to achieve strategic victories through assassinations and civilian deaths. Israel cannot seriously harm either Hezbollah or Hamas,” he added.
Both his words, as well as the choice to perform the great Friday prayer himself in a troubled period for Iran, but also for the wider region of the Middle East, prove once again the great esteem and respect he had for the 32-year leader of Hezbollah.
It is recalled that Hassan Nasrallah, through his long career, managed to make the Lebanese organization a worthy ally for the Iranian state, but also for the entire Arab world.
