According to the will of the Senate, numerous new wind turbines are to be built in Hamburg in the coming years. To this end, the environmental authority recently presented plans for new areas together with the urban development authority. The Federal Wind Energy Association considers these plans to be inadequate.
Due to federal regulations, 0.5 percent of Hamburg’s state area must be designated for the construction of wind turbines. The environmental authority is targeting areas in the comparatively sparsely populated districts of Altengamme, Neuengamme, Francop and Ochsenwerder, among others. However, new wind turbines are to be built in many places just 300 meters from residential buildings.
Wind energy association sees problems
Axel Röpke, Hamburg state chairman of the Federal Wind Energy Association, sees this as a problem: “Ultimately, wind power depends on the fact that I take the local citizens with me. And we already have conflicts in these areas in particular. So it would have been good to give other areas priority to treat.” For example in Altengamme Süd, where, according to the wind energy association, there is an area of around 200 hectares and where there would be no risk of problems with neighbors.
Röpke believes that it is unlikely that many wind turbines will actually be built on the areas now proposed by the environmental authority. You achieve a goal on paper, but it is a “fig leaf plan”. Those affected can still comment on the plans for new wind turbines in Hamburg until Sunday.
Construction of new wind turbines is planned, especially in the Bergedorf district
