Orchard Park., The NFL suspended Buffalo Bills defensive back Von Miller for four games for violating personal conduct policies.
The league did not reveal the reasons for the suspension, which was released as Buffalo (3-1) prepares to face the Houston Texans on Sunday. Miller, the NFL’s active sacks leader, is eligible to return to the Bills before their home game against Miami on Nov. 3.
Miller was accused in November of last year of assaulting his pregnant girlfriend at their home outside Dallas during the Bills’ bye week. He turned himself in to the police after being charged with the assault, a crime that could lead to a sentence of between two and 10 years in prison, as well as a fine of $10,000.
The woman and Miller have been in a relationship for seven years and have two children together. No charges were filed and in July Miller considered the case closed, according to information from his attorneys.
“My life is completely about football, my children and being the best teammate and player possible,” he said at the time. “I’m happy to be here with the Buffalo Bills. “I’m happy to be here right now, living my life and doing the things we normally do.”
Miller, 35, has three quarterback sacks in four games this season. He had none in 14 games last season, including the playoffs, after recovering from a torn knee ligament.
In his first comments after his arrest in December, Miller disputed the allegations, which he called false “and blown out of proportion.” He acknowledged that something happened between him and his girlfriend, but said it did not amount to what he was said to have done.
According to the statement to police about the alleged assault on November 29, Miller put his hands on his partner’s neck twice, pulled her hair and threw her onto the couch. The woman was treated for minor injuries, including a bruise on her neck, deputies wrote.
The Bills filled Miller’s shoes by signing defensive tackle Zion Logue from Atlanta’s practice squad.
