Anderlecht produced one of the surprises in the second round of the main stage of the Europa League after producing a quick turnaround to win 2-1 away to Real Sociedad.
The game started well for the Basques, who took the lead in the fifth minute. Umar Sadiq then took the ball from Matthias Jorgensen in the penalty area, then crossed it to Pablo Marin, who scored. Gradually, the visitors played better and managed to equalize in the 28th minute through a shot on the ground by Luis Vasquez. In the 39th minute, Theo Leoni took advantage of a knocked-out ball after a direct free kick and with a great volley from the edge of the penalty area made the turnaround complete – 1:2.
In the second half, the hosts applied pressure, but failed to score at least an equalizing goal, and the guests also failed to score another goal.
It’s Anderlecht’s second straight win in the main phase of the Europa League after a 2-1 win over Ferencvaros a week ago. Real Sociedad did not win again after the 1:1 draw with Nice in the first round.
In its next match in the tournament, the Belgian giants will host Ludogorets on October 24.
