There have recently been several explosive attacks in and around Cologne. A man was slightly injured in one of the incidents. Now this one is dead.
A witness was found dead after several explosions in Cologne and the surrounding area. The police said the 53-year-old was found under a railway bridge in Cologne-Buchforst on Wednesday afternoon. The officials are currently assuming a jump, after initial interviews, on-site investigations and the search of his apartment there were “no indications of external influence”.
The man was the cleaner who was slightly injured in the explosive attack in the entrance area of the “Vanity” club in downtown Cologne on September 16th. A connection “with previous findings on the background to the attacks” is currently not apparent. However, the investigation continues, according to the Cologne police. An autopsy on the body is scheduled for Friday.
A group of around 80 people called “Fusion” is investigating the series of attacks. The authorities suspect the Dutch mafia is behind the explosions that have been shaking Cologne and the surrounding area for several weeks. Read more about this here.
The police recently said that 13 arrests had already been made in connection with the explosions, shootings and hostage-taking, and 33 suspects had been identified. At the end of September, an explosive device exploded in a Cologne café – but in this case the motive was probably family-related; North Rhine-Westphalia Interior Minister Herbert Reul does not see a connection to the attacks in downtown Cologne.
