On September 24, 2024, the Chapultepec National Cinematheque (Gob CDMX) was inaugurated
As part of the restoration and modernization works of the Chapultepec Forest, the Federal Ministry of Culture, together with the government of Mexico City (CDMX), opened the Chapultepec National Cinematheque to the public. The venue located within the Fourth Section of the Forest will provide free performances for a period announced by the authorities.
The new Cineteca Nacional Chapultepec is the third venue of its kind within the country’s capital. And it will be added to the headquarters of the National Cinemateca of Mexico, on Avenida México Coyoacán, as well as the National Cinemateca of the Arts in the National Center of the Arts, which screen non-commercial feature films.
The event was headed by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO), as well as the President-elect and former head of Government of Mexico City (CDMX), Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, and Alejandra Frausto Guerrero, head of the Ministry of Culture at the level federal, who announced the details of the operation of the facility.
The Chapultepec National Cinematheque will have an outdoor projection forum (Gob CDMX)
During her speech at the inauguration of the Chapultepec National Cinematheque, the head of the Ministry of Culture at the federal level recalled that the 186-hectare land of the Fourth Section of the Forest will also house the National Art Winery. Meanwhile, regarding the facility that was erected on the site of the former weapons assembly plant at Military Camp 1-F, he said:
“The Cineteca Chapultepec, in a month of familiarization, will have free programming for a whole month, first-class spaces, unique in their kind, unique in the world. Where weapons were manufactured today, artists will be manufactured in two schools: one of cinema and the other of art, so that the weapons of the future, imagination and creation flourish, just like the former gunpowder factory.
In that sense, taking into account the statements made by Alejandra Frausto Guerrero, the Cineteca Nacional Chapultepec will not charge for access to its projection rooms during the remainder of the month of September and part of October, that is, from the day of its inauguration and until next Thursday, October 24.
In the facility there will also be a film school (Gob CDMX)
Within the work, with the capacity to accommodate nearly 1,800 spectators, attendees will be able to enjoy an outdoor forum, as well as a restaurant, cafeteria, bookstore, video library and gallery.
