Under the motto “We are Close”, ERCA launched its communication campaign to sowing of coarse grains 2024-2025.
Coarse grain campaign 2024-2025
With the focus on supporting clients in all stages of planting, engineer Claudio Del Vecchio made a series of recommendations for this campaign.
The corn planting campaign 2024/2025 It began in the southern region of Santa Fe and southeast of Córdoba, with a special focus on corn cultivation due to the impact of piroplasma disease transmitted by the leafhopper.
Agronomic recommendations for coarse grains
- Plant corn as a prime crop, advancing planting if humidity levels are correct to reduce the presence of the vector.
- Choose hybrids with genetics of good potential and biotechnology that protects against pests and diseases.
- Define the planting density according to the productive environment and accompany it with adequate fertilization to optimize performance.
- Carry out complementary fertilization at the phenological stage of three or four leaves of corn development to ensure adequate nutrition.
- Check and maintain in good condition each component of the sowing body, including the cutting blade, double discs, depth limiting wheels, contact wheel or tongue and capping wheels.
- Make sure the cutting blade makes a clean cut and does not disturb the soil unnecessarily.
- Verify that the double discs are in correct condition to open the furrow effectively.
- Adjust depth limiting wheels to ensure correct planting depth.
- Verify that the contact wheel or tongue is working correctly to deposit the seeds at the bottom of the furrow.
- Make sure that the covering wheels are in correct condition and have the proper pressure to effectively cover the furrow.
- Diagram a correct scheme for using herbicides from fallow to control resistant weeds.
- Start sowing with a clean lot and correctly define what type of pre-emergents to use to control weeds in the initial stage.
- Carry out correct monitoring to detect new weed growth or escapes and apply herbicides with different modes of action to delay the appearance of resistant weeds.
- Always use the phytosanitary products with the lowest environmental impact available in the Argentine market.
- New tools and alternatives for the control of piroplasma disease, including new registered insecticides.
- Monitoring system for tracking the pest and making informed decisions.
With these recommendations and news, lCorn producers can face the 2024/2025 campaign with greater safety and efficiency. The key is proper planning and execution of each step, from soil preparation to weed and pest control. With the help of new tools and technologies available, we can achieve a successful and sustainable campaign.
