The Supreme Court ordered the release of the company’s Brazilian bank accounts
Billionaire Elon Musk. This means that the fine imposed in the millions could be paid and the two-month penalty could be paid
Lockdown will be ended soon.
Platform Judge Alexandre de Moraes of the Supreme Court on Tuesday (local time) ordered the central bank to lift the freeze on X’s accounts and assets in Brazil. Billionaire Elon Musk’s platform can “immediately pay its fine”. The blocking of X could also be lifted in the medium term.
X therefore informed the court that he wanted to pay the fine imposed totaling 28.6 million reales (almost 4.8 million euros). It was imposed because X had not respected court decisions in Brazil and defied the ban in the country. Now, with X’s consent and restored access to assets, the way for an end to the blockade in Brazil could be paved.
Ban due to false information
Moraes had the online service blocked after a dispute with Musk, and X has no longer been available with a short interruption since the end of August. The judge justified the order by saying that the spread of false information via the platform should be prevented. Musk, in turn, repeatedly insisted on freedom of expression and sharply criticized the judge.
Before the ban, around 22 million people regularly used the platform in Brazil. Recently, X had made increasing efforts to unblock it and submitted the necessary documents to the judiciary. (APA/AFP)
