Man accidentally leaves AirPods in car, saves him 350,000 euros

The police often advise you not to leave valuables in your parked car. But ironically, leaving expensive items behind is the very reason this stolen Ferrari was recovered. The American owner was able to find his Ferrari 812 (pictures above for reference) because he left his wireless headphones in the car.

If you buy a set of Airpods from Apple, they immediately become a kind of Airtag. The headphones automatically connect to a nearby iPhone to share their location. So no GPS. The thieves had an iPhone (or someone who happened to be near the car) and accidentally passed where the Airpods were – and therefore the car.

Leaving Airpods lying around will save you a few hundred thousand euros

The location allowed the police to find the car. According to the clip from the newscast below, the car is said to be worth half a million dollars, but that could be an extreme amount. In any case, in the Netherlands you can get them from 350,000 euros. Anyway, it saves a new car that costs a few thousand euros – although we suspect the car was just insured.

So you have to consider: if your car is worth more than your Airpods, leave your headphones in the car. If your car is worth a little more, it’s best to leave your caps in the car. To be clear: this is a joke. Just buy a genuine Airtag for the car. Or even better: buy a good controller and put Airtag in the car just to be sure.
