/ world today news/ The Sofia Court of Appeal will consider the appeal of Tsvetan Vassilev against the prosecution’s request to keep him in custody for 72 hours.
Last week, the SGS dismissed the banker’s complaint as premature and inadmissible in view of the fact that he was still at large at the time. On Tuesday morning, however, Vasilev was detained by the Serbian authorities after he surrendered himself to the police in Belgrade.
On the same day, he was brought before the Serbian court, and after the hearing, he was banned from leaving his current address. His passport was confiscated and until the extradition procedure is initiated, he is obliged to appear before the Serbian authorities every working day from 09:00 to 15:00.
The question of whether Vassilev will be brought to Bulgaria depends on the Serbian court. For this purpose, the Bulgarian prosecutor’s office must submit a request accompanied by numerous documents, the deadline for which is a minimum of 18 days.
The banker is accused of embezzling approximately BGN 206 million from a Corporate Commercial Bank.
