Coca-Cola closes plant in Ossendorf: 300 jobs affected
Coca-Cola has announced that it will close its location in Cologne-Ossendorf. The plant is scheduled to stop production by the end of March and close completely in the fall of next year. The city of Cologne has now commented on the closure and regrets the decision. The departure of the global corporation and the Coca-Cola brand is an immense loss for the Cologne industrial location.
The city expects the company to find amicable and socially acceptable solutions for the affected employees. Of the approximately 600 jobs in Cologne, almost 300 are to be completely eliminated, while the remaining employees are to be accommodated at other locations.
Coca-Cola cites increased competitive pressure as the main reason for the closure. There are also three other companies in western Germany, and Cologne is the smallest of them. There is a lack of expansion and growth opportunities here, and the investment requirement is very high, according to the company.
